What should I do first?
- Check pockets, bags, and the car itself through the windows.
- Call the last places you went, including garages and transit lost and found.
- Find your spare. If you have one, a new key can simply be added later.
- Check whether your insurance or roadside plan covers key replacement.
What will I need?
Photo ID and the registration or title in your name, plus the year, make, model, and VIN (it is on the dashboard at the base of the windshield, and on your registration and insurance card).
How does replacement work?
With no key to copy, a new key is cut from the vehicle's key code or by decoding the lock, then programmed to the immobilizer. On most vehicles this is done on site. Some newer models need dealer-level authorization and software; Lock Raven has both for most makes, and a quick call with the VIN confirms yours before anyone heads out. See car keys by brand.
Were your house keys on the same ring?
If your address could be found with the keys, rekey your locks so the lost keys stop working.
